Skin Analytics Ltd builds autonomous AI for skin cancer detection as a regulated medical device, working with the NHS and health insurers in the UK and Australia.
Skin Analytics Ltd develops autonomous artificial intelligence for skin cancer detection, working with the NHS to build AI-driven skin cancer pathways delivered as a regulated Medical Device. Founded in 2012 by Neil Daly, the company operates in the United Kingdom and Australia and applies deep learning ensembles, computer vision and medical imaging to dermatology diagnostics.
Its principal product, DERM (Deep Ensemble for the Recognition of Malignancy), is described as the world's first autonomous AI for skin cancer detection, capable of making clinical decisions on its own within the cancer pathway. It holds a Class III CE mark and UKCA Class IIa certification. Since 2020, more than 170,000 patients have been seen and approximately 15,500 cancers detected through the system. The company also provides remote skin assessment services delivered to patients' homes, in partnership with health insurers including Bupa.
The company's stated aim is to make dermatologist-quality assessments accessible to everyone, reducing waiting lists and allowing dermatologists to concentrate on the patients who need them most. Its partnerships with the NHS date from 2020. The founding motivation comes from Mr Daly's upbringing in Australia and his observation of the importance of early skin cancer detection; the company's stated vision is a future in which no one dies of skin cancer.
