Surgo Health is a Public Benefit Corporation building an AI platform combining socio-behavioral data and analytics to explain patient behaviour across healthcare, pharma and public health.
Surgo Health, founded in 2019, develops what it calls healthcare's universal "Why Engine" - an AI platform that generates intelligence about the people behind patients by combining proprietary socio-behavioral data with advanced analytics. Its technical work spans machine learning, behavioural science, socio-behavioral data science, conversational AI and data pipeline engineering. The company operates as a Public Benefit Corporation.
Three products make up the platform. BehavioralPulse™ is a data pipeline that quantifies the attitudes, beliefs and barriers driving health behaviours. Mosaic™ integrates behavioural, clinical and social data into unified intelligence. Derin™ uses AI-powered conversations to surface the personal motivations of individuals. Together these are applied across pharmaceuticals, payers, healthcare providers, the public sector and clinical trials.
The company was founded by Dr. Sema Sgaier, a neuroscientist and global health innovator with nearly 20 years of work at the intersection of behaviour, data and AI. Her prior work at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation covered HIV prevention, reproductive and maternal health, and immunization. Surgo Health's stated focus is removing barriers to care and improving patient engagement, with an emphasis on equity and human-centred healthcare. Its partners include pharmaceutical companies, payers, providers and public sector organisations.
