smaXtec
smaXtec builds ingestible rumen boluses that continuously monitor dairy cow health and behaviour, enabling early disease detection through real-time sensor data and analytics.
smaXtec develops ingestible sensor boluses for dairy cows that remain inside the rumen and measure internal body temperature, water intake and drinking cycles, rumination patterns, activity levels and, optionally, pH. Data is transmitted continuously and analysed in real time, giving farmers and veterinarians insight into individual animal health without manual checks. The company states that its system can detect disease up to five days before symptoms appear and reduce treatment costs by as much as 70%.
Founded in 2009 by two engineers, smaXtec is headquartered in Graz, Austria, and operates in Europe and the United States. Its technical work spans sensor technology, pH measurement, IoT-connected devices and data analytics applied to preventive animal health diagnostics. The hardware is paired with TruHealth Management, a preventive health management system for dairy operations.
The company works with dairy producers, veterinarians and research institutions, and sells into dairy farming, livestock production and animal health. Its stated focus is on sustainability, animal welfare and helping farms of all sizes make more profitable decisions from data.
