planqc GmbH

planqc GmbH builds full-stack digital quantum computers using neutral atoms in optical lattices, plus quantum algorithms and software, with HPC-integrated and cloud delivery.

planqc GmbH builds digital atom-based quantum computers in which neutral atoms serve as qubits, held in trapped configurations such as optical lattices - artificial crystals of light. Founded in 2022 and headquartered in Garching, Germany, the company operates as a full-stack provider, spanning quantum hardware engineering, algorithms and quantum software rather than concentrating on a single layer of the stack. Its systems are designed for long coherence times and high-fidelity operations at scale, with the stated goal of reaching practical quantum advantage.

The company's products comprise digital atom-based quantum computing hardware, tailored quantum algorithms and software for industry-relevant use cases, and a quantum computing cloud service announced in 2024. Alongside cloud access, planqc offers on-premise systems and tightly integrated solutions for high-performance computing (HPC) environments. Technical work across the firm covers neutral atom qubits, optical lattices, trapped atom configurations, HPC integration and quantum cloud computing.

planqc is a spin-off from the Max Planck Institute of Quantum Optics and was founded by quantum physicists, an origin reflected in an engineering culture that combines hardware, algorithms and software under a mission the company describes as "From lab to impact". In 2024 the company announced a €50M Series A funding round. Industry verticals addressed include quantum computing and deep tech, high-performance computing, and enterprise applications.
