Founded in 2020, eleQtron GmbH is Germany's first quantum computing hardware startup. The company develops freely programmable quantum computers based on trapped-ion technology, using its proprietary MAGIC (Magnetic Gradient Induced Coupling) approach. This method replaces traditional laser control with precise microwave technology, which the company says enables more scalable, robust, and accurate qubit control.
Based in Siegen and Hamburg, eleQtron employs over 90 international experts working across quantum computing hardware, trapped-ion technology, microwave technology, and qubit control. The company has secured over €50 million in total funding, including a €16 million seed round and approximately €82 million in contracts from the German Aerospace Center (DLR). In 2025, eleQtron was recognised as a Technology Pioneer by the World Economic Forum.
eleQtron's quantum computing systems target applications in materials research, pharmaceuticals, logistics, finance, and supply chain management. The company is an active participant in major German quantum initiatives, including EPIQ, FullStaQD, and the DLR Quantum Computing Initiative.
