NKT Photonics Inc.

Danish-founded maker of high-performance fiber lasers and photonic crystal fibers, including the supercontinuum lasers it invented, for scientific and industrial uses across three continents.

NKT Photonics Inc. designs and manufactures high-performance fiber lasers and photonic crystal fibers for scientific and industrial applications worldwide. The company was formed in 2009 through the merger of two Danish predecessors, Ionas (later Koheras), founded in 1997, and Crystal Fibre, founded in 1999. Its origins lie in Danish research and entrepreneurship, and it continues to operate as a research-driven photonics company with activities spanning Europe, North America and Asia.

Supercontinuum lasers are a central product line. NKT Photonics invented the underlying supercontinuum technology, which became the industry standard for broadband light generation. Its photonic crystal fibers - specialty optical fibers that guide and manipulate light - are used by researchers and companies in advanced applications. The broader technical portfolio covers fiber lasers, supercontinuum laser technology and broadband light generation.

Applications of the company's technology reach quantum computing, medical imaging, semiconductor manufacturing, deep-space communications, medical and life sciences, and scientific research. The work sits at the intersection of laser physics, fiber design and precision manufacturing, and draws on a technical base built from Danish photonics research.
