NcodiN
NcodiN develops on-silicon optical interconnect technology, including ultra-compact lasers, to replace copper links in processors and enable Zettascale-class, energy-efficient computing.
NcodiN is a deep-tech company founded in 2023 to replace copper interconnects in processors with optical links. The company develops ultra-compact on-silicon lasers intended to overcome the bandwidth and energy limits of electrical wiring, with the stated goal of enabling Zettascale-class computing. Its work spans nanophotonics, silicon photonics, laser integration on silicon and semiconductor chip design, with applications in artificial intelligence, high-performance computing, telecommunications and energy-efficient computing.
The company's flagship product, NConnect, is described as the world's smallest laser integrated on silicon. According to NcodiN, the device is 500x smaller than industry standards, achieves energy efficiency below 0.1 pJ/bit and supports an integration density of more than 10,000 devices per square millimetre. By substituting optical links for copper interconnects, NConnect is designed to bring supercomputer-level performance to a single processor - a proposition framed against the 100x growth of AI models over five years cited by the company as a market driver.
NcodiN raised €16 million in seed funding and is headquartered in Palaiseau, France, with its founding research originating from academic work in Paris. The company was established by nanophotonics researchers and reports partnerships with industry players including CEA-Leti, Intel, ARM and Nvidia.
