Mujin develops software, algorithms and an operating system that connect industrial robots and warehouse equipment to run logistics and manufacturing sites autonomously.
Mujin Inc, founded in 2011 by Issei Takino and Rosen Diankov, builds the software and algorithms that allow industrial robots, automated guided vehicles, PLCs and warehouse management systems to run a site autonomously. The company does not manufacture robots; instead it supplies the intelligence layer that connects and coordinates them. Its stated fields of work include machine intelligence, computer perception, motion planning, control algorithms and autonomous systems.
Three products form the core of the offering. MujinMI (Machine Intelligence) comprises perception, planning and control algorithms aimed at difficult automation problems in logistics and manufacturing. MujinController, the flagship, works with MujinOS, an operating system for industrial automation, to enable no-code deployment of palletizing, depalletizing, picking and fleet automation. The approach targets customers in warehousing, supply chain and manufacturing who wish to automate without extensive bespoke programming.
The company employs more than 450 people and maintains offices in Tokyo, where it is headquartered, as well as Atlanta, Guangzhou and Eindhoven, covering Japan, the United States, China and Europe. It grew from a startup occupying two desks into a multinational operation. Mujin describes its culture as mission-driven and fast-paced, with open discussion and refinement of ideas; its stated aim is to relieve people of repetitive manual labour so that they can concentrate on creative work.
