Dioxycle

Dioxycle develops a carbon electrolyzer that converts industrial CO and CO₂ emissions into chemicals such as ethylene using electricity and water.

Dioxycle is a carbon utilisation company founded in 2021 that converts industrial emissions, principally carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide, into everyday chemicals using only electricity and water. Its core technology is a proprietary carbon electrolyzer, which electrochemically transforms CO and CO₂ into products such as ethylene. The company says its electrolyzer achieves unprecedented energy and cost efficiency, targeting what it calls a "green discount": cost parity or savings relative to fossil-derived chemical prices. Its initial target is the ethylene market, worth some $200 billion a year.

The company is headquartered in Paris, with operations in California and research roots in Cambridge. It employs more than 43 people drawn from 15 nationalities, with talent from Stanford, MIT, Cambridge and Ecole Polytechnique and alumni of DuPont, Chevron and Engie. The technology builds on a decade of research at Cambridge, the Collège de France and Stanford University. Dioxycle has raised $40 million from climate-focused investors including Breakthrough Energy Ventures, Lowercarbon Capital and Gigascale Capital, and has a partnership with L'Oréal.

Dioxycle frames its addressable problem in industrial terms: displacing fossil feedstocks in chemical production could cut more than 800m tonnes of CO₂ per year, equivalent to over 2% of global emissions. The sectors its technology touches span chemicals and petrochemicals, energy infrastructure, mining, pharmaceuticals, agriculture and consumer goods.
