Skytree

Skytree, an ESA spin-out founded in 2014, builds modular Direct Air Capture machines that generate CO₂ on site for reuse or permanent storage across industries from vertical farming to fuels.

Skytree develops and deploys modular Direct Air Capture (DAC) technology that captures CO₂ from the atmosphere for reuse or permanent storage. By generating CO₂ on site, its systems are intended to let businesses move away from fossil fuel-based industrial processes while avoiding the emissions associated with CO₂ transport. The company was founded in 2014 and spun out of the European Space Agency, where the underlying technology was originally developed for carbon capture aboard space stations.

The product line centres on Skytree Stratus and Skytree Stratus Park, modular and scalable machines designed for on-site CO₂ generation across multiple applications. Target verticals include greenhouses, vertical farming, carbon removal projects, power-to-x fuels, drink carbonation and water treatment. Technical domains span Direct Air Capture, carbon capture, modular CO₂ generation, atmospheric carbon removal and energy-efficient capture systems.

Skytree has raised €14M and operates from four locations: its headquarters in Amsterdam, plus Almere, Toronto and Nashville. The team is composed of scientists and engineers, with a stated focus on decentralising carbon capture.
