Blockstream

Blockstream builds Bitcoin and blockchain infrastructure, including the Liquid Network sidechain, Core Lightning, the Jade hardware wallet and satellite blockchain broadcasting.

Blockstream, founded in 2014, builds Bitcoin and blockchain infrastructure. The company develops products and open-source systems intended to make Bitcoin more accessible, secure and scalable for individuals and enterprises. Its technical work spans cryptography, layer-2 scaling, sidechain technology, confidential transactions, hardware wallet design, satellite broadcasting and enterprise custody platforms.

Its product portfolio covers several layers of the Bitcoin stack. Core Lightning (formerly c-lightning), the Lightning Network implementation the company maintains, underpins Bitcoin layer-2 payments. The Liquid Network is a Bitcoin sidechain built for fast, confidential transactions by enterprises and institutions. Blockstream Jade is a hardware wallet for individual users, while Blockstream Satellite broadcasts the Bitcoin blockchain from space to provide global access. The company also offers an enterprise custody platform for institutional Bitcoin holdings.

Blockstream employs more than 100 people across 10 offices worldwide, with remote contributors spanning six continents. The team includes cryptographers, engineers and researchers. Open-source work is a substantial part of its activity: in addition to Core Lightning, the company contributes to Bitcoin Core. Its stated operating principles include permissionless innovation and a 'don't trust, verify' approach that reduces reliance on trusted third parties, in service of a stated mission to accelerate the transition to a financial system powered by Bitcoin.
