Vahterus

Vahterus designs and manufactures fully welded Plate and Shell Heat Exchangers (PSHE) for demanding industrial applications. The company developed the first fully welded plate and shell heat exchanger technology, which combines the pressure and temperature tolerance of shell and tube designs with the heat transfer performance of plate and frame units. The equipment is custom-built, with an emphasis on efficiency, compactness and reliability. More than 90,000 units have been delivered worldwide to customers in energy, refrigeration, chemical and marine industries.

Founded in 1990 as a three-person startup, Vahterus is now a family-owned Finnish business employing over 600 people. Manufacturing and headquarters remain in Kalanti, a village in the Vakka-Suomi region of Western Finland, where the original factory was rebuilt after a fire destroyed it in 1993. Subsidiaries operate in China, Brazil, the United Kingdom, Germany and the United States.

The company's technical work spans heat exchanger design, welded plate and shell technology, thermal engineering and the manufacture of custom engineered equipment. Its engineering culture is oriented towards pioneering design and sustainable solutions; Vahterus markets the PSHE as a lower-impact alternative to conventional heat exchanger types, with a focus on thermal efficiency and durability over long service lives.
