Ubiq Aerospace

Norway-based Ubiq Aerospace engineers autonomous ice protection systems, including its modular D•ICE suite, enabling UAS, air taxi and helicopter flight in icing conditions.

Ubiq Aerospace is a Norway-based aerospace systems company that develops autonomous ice protection systems for unmanned aircraft, air taxis and helicopters. Its flagship technology, D•ICE, is designed to sustain flight operations in adverse icing conditions - a constraint that currently limits where and when many aircraft can fly. The company positions itself as the exclusive provider of the D•ICE technology.

D•ICE is built as a modular suite rather than a single device. Its modules cover ice detection, airframe protection, propeller and rotor protection and resilient airdata sensing, allowing integration across different airframe types and mission profiles. The technical scope spans aircraft icing mitigation, airframe and rotor protection and aerospace systems engineering, with applications in UAS and drone operations, urban air mobility and helicopter fleets, including defence and other critical drone missions.

The engineering base is unusually deep for a company of its type: the team includes more than 20 PhDs. Ubiq Aerospace describes its engineering lineage as rooted in NASA practice combined with Norwegian innovation, and it collaborates with major aerospace industry leaders including Boeing Insitu, Lockheed Martin and Sikorsky. Much of its work targets operations in harsh environments such as the Arctic, where reliable ice protection is a precondition for flight rather than an enhancement.
