SpotLab is an AI model factory for diagnostics and biopharma research, building multimodal AI systems that turn smartphones into medical devices for healthcare diagnostics. Founded in 2017 as a spin-off of Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, the company works across artificial intelligence, computer vision, smartphone-based medical imaging, 3D printing and biomedicine, with a technical focus on clinical research AI and parasitological analysis.

Its product portfolio includes MedulAI, an AI product for blood cancer diagnosis, and ParasitAI, for parasitological analysis, alongside AI services for clinical research and diagnosis assistance. Much of this work targets diseases that have not yet entered the digital world, including neglected tropical diseases and parasitology, extending diagnostic capability to settings where conventional laboratory infrastructure is limited.

The team comprises over 20 practitioners, scientists and engineers, described as multidisciplinary and fluent in both AI and biomedicine. SpotLab operates in six countries: Spain, Kenya, Brazil, Ethiopia, Malaysia and the United States, reflecting a stated focus on universal healthcare access.

The company has received more than 10 international awards, including the Seal of Excellence of the European Union, and is backed by the Gates Foundation, the European Commission and EIT Health.
