Skylo Technologies

Skylo Technologies turns existing satellites into a standards-based Non-Terrestrial Network, connecting smartphones and IoT devices directly via software upgrades to extend cellular coverage globally.

Skylo Technologies builds a Non-Terrestrial Network (NTN) that links smartphones and IoT devices directly to satellites, extending cellular coverage beyond the reach of terrestrial networks - which, the company notes, cover only about 15% of Earth's surface. Rather than requiring new hardware, its approach works through software upgrades to existing satellites and devices, allowing mobile network operators to extend service across land, air and sea. The technology is built on 3GPP standards-based cellular.

Its commercial offering comprises an NTN virtualized RAN (vRAN) with cloud-native base stations and core networks, connecting handsets and sensors without hardware modification; the company reports service delivered across millions of activated devices on five continents. A second platform provides standards-based NTN connectivity for operators, backed by more than 90 patents. The technical stack spans virtualized RAN, cloud-native core networks, satellite communications and direct-to-device connectivity.

Deployment targets include maritime and fisheries, agriculture, logistics and cargo tracking, automotive, IoT and emergency communications. Skylo works through a partner ecosystem spanning satellite operators, chipset makers and device OEMs, and describes its aim as universal, affordable and reliable connectivity for lives, livelihoods and business continuity.
