Rivada Space Networks is building The Outernet, a 600-satellite low-Earth orbit constellation using inter-satellite laser links to provide secure global point-to-point connectivity for enterprise and government customers.
Rivada Space Networks is a satellite communications company founded in 2022 and headquartered in Munich, with a secondary office in Berlin. A wholly owned subsidiary of Rivada Networks, it employs an international team drawn from across the space industry and is focused on global communications infrastructure for enterprise and government customers.
The company's principal project is The Outernet, a planned low-Earth orbit constellation of 600 interconnected satellites designed to provide global, pole-to-pole, point-to-point connectivity. The architecture is gateway-less: inter-satellite laser links carry data through space from origin to destination, without touching the ground before it reaches its intended endpoint. Rivada Space Networks claims this yields an ultra-secure network with end-to-end latencies comparable to or better than terrestrial fiber.
The technical work spans satellite communications, low-Earth orbit constellation design, inter-satellite laser links and space-based networking, with the aim of delivering low-latency global connectivity on a wholesale basis. The network is intended to serve enterprise, government and telecommunications customers.
Rivada Space Networks states its mission as democratizing space and transforming global communications infrastructure for the most demanding customers. The constellation is intended for worldwide coverage, pole to pole.
