Planted

Swiss ETH Zurich spin-off producing clean-label plant-based meat from pea, sunflower and oat proteins using proprietary structuring and fermentation technology.

Planted is a Swiss food-tech company that produces meat substitutes from plant-based proteins. Founded in 2019 as a spin-off from ETH Zurich, the company builds its products on two proprietary technology platforms: a structuring technology that shapes plant proteins into fibrous, meat-like textures, and fermentation technology used in processing. Its research base in food science and plant-protein processing underpins a product range spanning burgers, steaks, sausages and schnitzels.

The products are formulated from pea, sunflower and oat proteins, water and Swiss rapeseed oil. The company maintains a clean-label commitment: no E-numbers, artificial flavours, colours or other artificial additives are used. Health, taste and sustainability are stated as the guiding criteria in product development.

Planted processes over 20 tonnes of plant-based protein per day across two production facilities, in Kemptthal, Switzerland and Memmingen, Germany. It sells into retail grocery and food manufacturing channels in Switzerland, Germany and wider Europe. The company was certified as a B Corp in 2023.
