MedArtis
Medartis AG is a Swiss medical device manufacturer making titanium implants and instruments (APTUS, MODUS) for bone fracture fixation in extremities and the craniomaxillofacial region.
Medartis AG designs and manufactures titanium implants and surgical instruments for the fixation of bone fractures in the upper and lower extremities and the craniomaxillofacial region. Founded in 1997 by Dr. h.c. Thomas Straumann - following a personal experience with the limitations of existing osteosynthesis solutions during recovery from a serious accident, in partnership with childhood friend Willi Miesch - the company is headquartered in Basel, Switzerland, where it carries out research and development as well as manufacturing. A second development and manufacturing site in Warsaw, Indiana was added in 2022.
Its two principal product systems, APTUS and MODUS, comprise titanium implants and instruments developed in close collaboration with surgeons worldwide. The technical scope spans medical device design, titanium implant engineering, osteosynthesis solutions, extremity and craniomaxillofacial implant systems, and surgical instrument development, with R&D and production integrated in-house.
Medartis employs approximately 860 people across 13 locations and sells its products in over 50 countries. The company's stated purpose is to restore quality of life for patients by providing physicians with innovative, high-quality and user-friendly solutions - an orientation that shapes its development work, which is conducted in partnership with leading surgeons in orthopaedic, trauma, extremity and craniomaxillofacial surgery.
