Debiopharm

Independent Swiss biopharmaceutical company that in-licenses compounds, runs clinical development, manufactures in Martigny, and partners with global pharma on cancer and infectious disease therapies and digital health.

Debiopharm is an independent biopharmaceutical company founded in 1979 and headquartered in Lausanne, Switzerland, with a manufacturing site in Martigny. The company in-licenses high-potential compounds, clinically demonstrates their safety and efficacy, and partners with global pharmaceutical companies to bring therapies for cancer and infectious diseases to patients worldwide. Its technical work spans drug development, clinical development, pharmaceutical manufacturing, digital health, oncology and infectious diseases, alongside pharmaceutical in-licensing and strategic venture investment.

The group operates through three complementary entities. Debiopharm International runs drug development activities; Debiopharm Research & Manufacturing covers production excellence and manufacturing; and the Debiopharm Innovation Fund makes strategic digital health investments. The team comprises 420 professionals working across these units.

Over more than 45 years of operation, Debiopharm has maintained an operating model built on in-licensing compounds, developing them clinically and then partnering for worldwide reach. As an independent company, it states that decisions are guided by scientific rationale rather than market pressure, with agility and focus as core operating principles and cross-disciplinary, cross-border collaboration across its sites.

The company was founded by Dr. Rolland-Yves Mauvernay and is now led by his son, Thierry Mauvernay. Debiopharm describes its purpose as bridging disruptive discovery and patient access, with an emphasis on developing tomorrow's standard of care.
