Livestock Information

Joint venture of Defra and AHDB operating a unified digital platform for UK livestock traceability, replacing legacy paper and database systems for movement tracking and reporting.

Livestock Information is a joint venture between Defra (85%) and AHDB (15%), founded in 2019, that operates a unified digital platform for livestock traceability in the United Kingdom. The company's purpose is to replace legacy paper-based systems for recording livestock movements, making reporting faster, more accurate and simpler for farmers, while providing government and industry with real-time data for disease control, trade compliance and food safety. Millions of livestock movements across England must be tracked every year.

The platform is being built species by species. The Sheep, Goat and Deer service launched in March 2022, replacing the legacy ARAMS system. Cattle movement tracking is in development and is scheduled to launch in 2026, replacing the legacy CTS system. Pig traceability services are planned to follow on the same multi-species platform.

Technical work spans digital traceability platforms, livestock movement tracking systems, real-time data services and record management and reporting systems, alongside the migration of users off legacy and paper-based processes. The company operates in the agriculture and farming, livestock, animal health and disease control, food safety and trade compliance sectors, serving both public-sector and industry stakeholders across England and the wider United Kingdom.
