Detechgene

Cologne-based biotech founded in 2022, developing portable LAMP molecular diagnostics and lyophilized beads as a PCR alternative for pathogen detection.

Detechgene is a biotechnology company founded in 2022 and based in Cologne, Germany. A spin-off from the Nephrology Research Laboratory of the University Hospital Cologne, it develops portable molecular diagnostics built on LAMP (loop-mediated isothermal amplification), positioned as an alternative to PCR for nucleic acid detection. The company's stated aim is to make rapid molecular testing accessible outside conventional laboratory settings, with an emphasis on decentralised, user-friendly design. The company's technology platform rests on lyophilisation: its lyophilized LAMP beads enable pathogen detection without complex laboratory infrastructure. Around this, Detechgene has built the DetechBeads system, its flagship product for rapid pathogen detection using portable LAMP technology. The standard portfolio comprises molecular tests for SARS-CoV-2, Influenza A and B, and RSV, alongside customised diagnostic solutions. Target fields include clinical and veterinary diagnostics, in-vitro diagnostics and research and laboratory applications. Detechgene raised €3.2 million in seed funding and received the WiNa Award 2025. The company combines laboratory innovation with simple mobile molecular diagnostics, described as three simple tools.
