Autolus develops programmed CAR T cell therapies for cancer and autoimmune disease; its AUCATZYL (obe-cel) therapy received FDA approval in November 2024.
Autolus is a biopharmaceutical company developing next-generation, programmed T cell therapies for cancer and autoimmune diseases. Founded in 2014 and spun out from University College London, the company builds on cell programming technology pioneered by Dr. Martin Pule. Its work centres on chimeric antigen receptors engineered with specific antibody tumour recognition domains and tailored T cell receptor activation and costimulatory domains, applied to autologous T cell therapies.
The company's lead product, AUCATZYL (obecabtagene autoleucel, obe-cel), a programmed CAR T cell therapy for adults with relapsed or refractory B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia, received FDA approval in November 2024. Supporting research has been published in the New England Journal of Medicine and Nature Medicine. A pipeline of further product candidates spans hematological malignancies, solid tumours and autoimmune diseases.
Autolus describes itself as a fully integrated CAR T company, covering cell therapy engineering through clinical development and commercialisation. It is headquartered in London, with a presence in Germany and the USA, and works across the fields of immuno-oncology and cellular therapy.
