Vay

Vay runs a remotely driven electric car rental service, with teledrivers delivering and parking vehicles remotely, and builds teleoperation technology for trucking and fleet use.

Vay operates the world's first commercially available remotely driven car rental service. Users request an electric vehicle through the Vay app; a professionally trained teledriver delivers it to their doorstep from a Remote Driving Station and, once the user has finished the trip, parks it remotely. The service is live on public streets in Las Vegas, Nevada, with more than 50,000 trips completed, and Vay is expanding across the United States and Europe.

The company's technical work centres on teleoperation and remote driving, supported by autonomous vehicle know-how, electric vehicle fleets, app-based vehicle dispatch and the operation of Remote Driving Stations. Its position on autonomy is deliberately pragmatic: Vay treats full autonomy as a long-term prospect and builds near-term products around human remote driving. Alongside its consumer service, the company is developing B2B remote driving applications for autonomous trucking, car sharing and commercial vehicle fleets.

Founded in Berlin in 2018 by repeat entrepreneurs with experience at Zoox, Amazon Echo and European and American electric vehicle and autonomous shuttle programmes, Vay has raised over $200 million. The company states a mission to transform urban transport and remove the friction of parking.
