RoslinCT

RoslinCT is a cell and gene therapy CDMO providing process development and clinical and commercial manufacturing, with facilities in Edinburgh and Boston.

RoslinCT is a contract development and manufacturing organisation (CDMO) for advanced cell and gene therapies, taking programmes from process development through to clinical and commercial production. Founded in 2006, the company employs more than 500 people across strategic facilities in Edinburgh, Scotland and Boston, Massachusetts, and works on both autologous and allogeneic platforms. Its scientific lineage traces to the cloning technology behind Dolly the Sheep, developed at the Roslin Institute, University of Edinburgh, in 1997.

The company's technical range covers cell therapy, gene therapy, CRISPR gene editing and pluripotent stem cell technology, alongside process development and scale-up. Manufacturing capabilities include closed processing, flexible suite design and chain-of-identity controls - practical requirements for therapies in which each patient's cells must be tracked and handled correctly. RoslinCT was among the first companies in the world to produce clinical-grade human pluripotent stem cells.

RoslinCT is best known for its work with Vertex Pharmaceuticals on exa-cel, the world's first CRISPR-edited cell therapy, developed for sickle cell disease and transfusion-dependent beta thalassemia. For engineers and scientists, the appeal of the work lies in translating laboratory science into regulated, manufacturable products at commercial scale - an environment combining molecular biology, automation and stringent quality systems across two continents.
