Kreios Space is a Spanish deep-tech startup founded in 2021 in Nigrán by six aerospace engineers who met at university. The company is developing Very Low Earth Orbit (VLEO) satellite technology, with a 17-person team focused on satellite systems and aerospace engineering.
At the core of its work is the Air-Breathing Electric Propulsion (ABEP) system, a technology that enables satellites to operate at altitudes as low as 200 kilometres by running entirely on atmospheric air and solar power, eliminating the need for onboard fuel tanks. This approach allows satellites to remain in orbit for years rather than days. The resulting VLEO satellites deliver sub-10 cm optical resolution - three times sharper imagery than conventional systems - along with seven times higher data rates and over 50% cost reduction.
Kreios Space targets applications across Earth observation, disaster response, precision agriculture, telecommunications, and defence. The company is backed by investors including the NATO Innovation Fund and JOIN Capital.
