Isomorphic Labs

Isomorphic Labs is a British AI drug discovery company, spun out of Google DeepMind in 2021, using AI to model biology, design molecules and develop medicines in oncology and immunology.

Isomorphic Labs is a British AI-powered drug discovery company founded in 2021 as a spinout from Google DeepMind. It applies artificial intelligence to model biological phenomena, design novel molecules and predict drug performance, treating biology as an information-processing system. The company's stated mission is to one day solve all disease, and it aims to accelerate discovery "at digital speed" through an AI-first approach to scientific work.

Central to its work is a unified Drug Design Engine, a state-of-the-art AI system that operates across multiple therapeutic areas and drug modality types, allowing experimental drug candidate identification to be carried out in silico. The technical stack spans machine learning, protein structure prediction, generative and predictive AI modelling, computational biology and biological systems modelling. The company builds on AlphaFold, the protein structure prediction system developed at Google DeepMind, whose developers were recognised with the 2024 Nobel Prize in Chemistry; Isomorphic Labs CEO Sir Demis Hassabis was among the laureates.

Beyond its platform, Isomorphic Labs runs an internal pipeline of drug candidates in oncology and immunology. It has partnerships with three major pharmaceutical companies - Eli Lilly, Novartis and Johnson & Johnson - extending its reach internationally while remaining headquartered in the United Kingdom. Teams are interdisciplinary, combining drug discovery experts with machine learning specialists.
