Horse Technologies

Horse Technologies develops and produces hybrid and combustion engines, transmissions, and range extenders for automotive OEMs, across 18 plants and five R&D centres on three continents.

Horse Technologies is an independent powertrain technology company founded in 2024 as a joint venture between Renault Group and Geely. It develops and produces hybrid and combustion engines, transmissions, and range extenders for automotive OEMs. The firm is structured in two divisions: Horse Technologies, headquartered in Madrid, Spain, and Aurobay Technologies, with sites in Gothenburg, Sweden, and Hangzhou Bay, China. The founding groups bring a combined heritage of 125 years in automotive engineering.

Its engineering work spans powertrain engineering, hybrid systems, combustion engines, transmissions, range extenders, and alternative fuels including hydrogen and synthetic fuels. Combustion engines are designed for compatibility with a range of fuels beyond petrol and diesel, while range extenders similarly accommodate hydrogen and synthetic alternatives. Hybrid systems are built to help OEMs deliver cleaner transportation without compromising performance or accessibility.

The company operates 18 manufacturing plants and five R&D centres across three continents, serving the automotive and propulsion-technology sectors in Europe, Asia, and the Americas. Its technical premise is that decarbonisation will proceed through diverse pathways rather than electrification alone: around 50% of vehicles on the road in 2040 are expected to be combustion or hybrid-powered, which shapes the firm's focus on efficient thermal and hybrid powertrains.
