Apollo Research
A non-profit AI safety organisation advancing AI alignment and detecting scheming in frontier models through pre-deployment risk evaluations.
Apollo Research is a non-profit AI safety organisation working to reduce catastrophic risks from advanced AI systems. Its research focuses on AI alignment and on detecting scheming - AI systems that covertly pursue objectives misaligned with their operators. The organisation employs roughly 35 scientists, engineers and policy experts, and operates from two offices, in London and San Francisco.
Its principal activity is frontier model risk evaluation: pre-deployment assessments of advanced AI models to surface risks such as scheming, alongside the development of safety protocols. Apollo Research conducts these evaluations in collaboration with DeepMind, OpenAI, Anthropic and Microsoft. Technical work spans AI model evaluation, deception detection, safety protocol design and AI governance and policy.
The organisation describes itself as mission-driven, with a culture of truth-seeking, goal-orientation and constructive feedback. The team is growing, with expanding research capacity and operations across its London and San Francisco sites.
