Wood is one of humanity’s oldest construction materials, yet its natural properties limit its use in demanding structural and architectural applications. Variations in strength, moisture sensitivity, and flammability often require additional treatments or alternative materials such as concrete, plastics, or metals. At the same time, the construction sector is seeking new materials that combine structural performance with lower environmental impact. Woodoo, a materials technology company based in Paris, develops engineered wood materials designed to enhance the natural properties of timber. Through a proprietary transformation process, the company modifies the internal structure of wood, seeking to create stronger, more durable materials suitable for demanding applications. By combining advanced material science with renewable resources, Woodoo aims to expand the role of wood in sustainable construction and industrial design.

Technology and Product

Woodoo develops engineered wood materials through a proprietary transformation process that modifies the internal structure of timber. The process removes lignin from selected wood species and replaces it with a bio-based polymer, creating a dense composite with enhanced strength and stability. This transformation improves durability, resistance to moisture, and dimensional stability while preserving the natural appearance of wood. The resulting material can be processed using conventional woodworking and manufacturing equipment, allowing integration into existing industrial production lines. Woodoo’s technology enables timber to be used in applications that traditionally require plastics, metals, or treated wood products. By combining renewable raw materials with advanced materials engineering, the company expands the functional possibilities of wood in architecture, construction, and design.

Industrial Fit and Applications

Across construction, architecture, and product design, demand is growing for materials that combine performance with a lower environmental footprint. Engineered timber technologies are therefore gaining attention as alternatives to carbon-intensive materials. Woodoo’s modified wood materials are designed for applications where durability, stability, and aesthetic qualities are required. In 2025, the company delivered the MixCity project, featuring more than 8,000 linear meters of STACK façade, as well as housing cladding and public benches for Paris Airport. Other applications include façade elements, urban furniture, and structural projects.

Founding Team

Woodoo was founded in 2016 by architect, chemist, and entrepreneur Timothée Boitouzet. His team brings together expertise in material science, chemistry, and industrial design. Based in Paris, the team collaborates with industrial partners to introduce advanced timber materials into construction applications.
