Microrobotics at the Frontier of Neurosurgery

Deeptech Insider3 min read
Robeauté

Robeauté is a French medtech startup developing a new generation microrobotic platform intended for use in neurosurgical procedures. The company works at the intersection of robotics, physics, biology, and medicine to create a world-first device of its kind – capable of navigating within the brain to support diagnosis, targeted therapy delivery, and real-time data collection. The technology aims to address limitations in current surgical tools by offering greater safety, flexibility and precision in deep-brain access.

Technology and Product

Shrinking robotics down to the scale of neural structures, Robeauté’s approach centers on a microrobot smaller than a grain of rice, capable of moving through brain tissue with sub-millimetric precision. The robot relies on a universal robotic core with interchangeable micro-extensions to enable tasks including tissue sampling, targeted therapy delivery, electrode placement, and in-situ data capture.

The 3D live navigation concept is intended to allow curved and non-linear trajectories within the brain, an area where rigid instruments face constraints. Robeauté positions this approach as a potential pathway toward less invasive and more targeted neurological interventions, while noting that the technology is still in pre-clinical trials and plans to be in clinical trials in early 2027, tracking towards regulatory approval in the US as its first market.

Industrial Fit and Applications

The company targets the neurosurgery and neurotherapeutics domain, where access to deep and delicate brain structures remains a major challenge of a global scale. With one in three people affected by neurological conditions and more than 1 billion people affected by life-threatening brain disease, current tools limit early detection and effective treatment. The microrobotic platform is designed to support applications including advanced biopsy, localized treatment delivery, sensor implantation, and high-resolution data acquisition to ultimately better understand and treat brain tumors and neuro-degenerative diseases from within. Planned use cases span preclinical research and future clinical applications that require precise, localized inter-vention. The company frames its technology as transformational and not simply incremental, seamlessly integrating into neurosurgical operating rooms and radically changing the way we interact with the brain, particularly in contexts where precision and minimal invasiveness can save or meaningfully extend lives.

Founding Team

Robeauté was founded by Bertrand Duplat (CEO) and Joana Cartocci (COO). Duplat brings a background in robotics engineering, while Cartocci adds experience in leading complex operational projects. Together, they have built a team of inventors, scientists and surgeons with the necessary technical and organisational expertise to advance microrobotics toward medical use and outsized patient impact.
