Automating Industrial Robot Programming
Byte Robotics GmbH is a software spin-off emerging from research at the Otto von Guericke University based in Magdeburg, Germany. The company is focused on automating the generation of industrial robot programs, by applying advanced algorithms and AI-driven optimisation into offline programming (OLP) systems. Which in turn will reduce the time, cost, and expertise required to program industrial robots. Making manual pendant touch up a thing of the past. Faster commissioning – highly efficient robot programs.
Technology and Product
The central technology developed by Byte Robotics automatically generates cycle-time optimized and collision-free robot programs that can be integrated into existing offline programming environments. Rather than relying on manual motion planning—an effort that can take days or weeks—this software assesses a process description and applies optimisation routines that consider robot degrees of freedom and task constraints. According to the startup, the solution increases overall efficiency by generating executable programs that fit seamlessly into familiar programming workflows, helping companies reduce engineering effort and improve throughput of robot deployments.

Industrial Fit and Applications
Manufacturing organisations across sectors such as automotive, electronics, and general industrial production often encounter high robot programming costs during the design and commissioning phases. Byte Robotics’ approach is positioned to make robot programming more accessible and efficient—a proposition that could appeal especially to small and medium-sized enterprises that lack large engineering teams. The automated generation of optimized motion sequences aims to support applications including assembly, welding, material handling, and inspection, where collision avoidance and cycle-time performance are critical to productivity. During an early introductory phase, the overall feedback from customers has been overwhelmingly positive.

Founding Team
The company was founded by Erik May (CEO) and Julian-Benedikt Scholle (CTO), alongside co-founders Nadia Schillreff, Maximilian Kühne and Leona Grulich, all of whom were involved in the underlying EXIST transfer of research project at Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg. This core team combines strengths in robotics, algorithm development, and software engineering, aiming to translate research insights into a product that lowers barriers to industrial robot automation.
